We have stayed at the lovely house twice now and each time its an amazing experience, the house has everything you could possible need and more to make your stay comfortable. Very central to get around the Island of Islay either by car or bus, the bus stop is a stones throw away from the house. Its immaculate which lovely fresh linen in all the bedrooms and bathroom. We enjoyed our two previous stays and have requested to book again for next year. Totally recommend this wee gem truly a great experience from booking to leaving Islay.

Kenny has been amazing at helping with accommodation for our employees whilst they have been working at Port Ellen Distillery. They have all been very happy at the cottage, believe me, they would let me know if they weren't! 🙂 Thank you very much Kenny!

Have completely fallen in love with Islay and staying in this house could not have been more perfect. perfectly positioned with armlengths to everything needed for a group whose age ranged from just under two to sixty five. It was easy staying in the house and doing all (almost all) our cooking which included a traditional Swedish langoustine party. The langoustines ordered from the Sea Shack and none of us have ever tasted better. The garden was perfect and all the rooms had a good size. We came from 3 countries and Islay showed Scotland at its best, no rain in 6 days!! Played rounders on the beach and Portnahaven and the seals is a must. So much more on this island than distilleries. The professional photographer (daughter in law) worked 24/7.

We are just back from staying at An Chroit. It was our first time staying here and was absolutely perfect, the house has everything you could need and the garden is a great bonus. The location is great for distillery path and Islay sea adventures that we would highly recommend and is right on your doorstep. I would definitely stay there again 😀

Large house in central location in Port Ellen. The house has more than enough space, is very well equipped and is very centrally located. The house also has a small nice garden. It is in the center of Port Ellen, walking distance to the bus stop, supermarkets, the beach, pubs/restaurants and some distilleries. The house is highly recommended.

It is the sixth time we reserve this house. We really love it because it's comfortable, there is everything you need inside, a very nice kitchen, a nice living room, and three bedrooms, a well working heating and a very functional bath room. It is a perfect location to visit the island, to have nice walks around Port Ellen or to the three nearest distilleries. I strongly recommend this place, and hope I'll go back there very soon.

We were 4 men from Sweden who stayed at A'Chroit for a week in April. We really liked the place which had a great kitchen, good living room and the bedrooms were good as well. We couldn't have asked for anything else and it was also a walking distance to three distilleries. When we had any questions Kenny was very quick to answer them. We hope that we can stay there again.

This was our first visit to Islay. A'Chroit is a cosy cottage close to the ferry and a grocery store. A good base for exploring the area. The property is well equipped though no dishwasher. Not a problem though. Distilleries within 1 hour drive or 10 mins drive. A lovely drive up past Ardbeg to bays where you can be alone. Half an hour to Port Askaig and 1 hour to Portnahaven. Amazing natural wildlife. Petrol station 2 minutes from the house. You will enjoy staying at this lovely house.

This was our 4th time staying in A'Chroit for the Feis Ile (2016, 2017 & 2019) and the first since the pandemic. It was nice to be back and staying in such a welcoming and familiar place. Except for a very wet and midge infested Laphroaig day morning the weather was fantastic throughout the week. The location of A'Chroit couldn't be better for accessing the 3 (soon to be 5!) South Islay Whisky (& 1 Rum) Distilleries and as with previous years we enjoyed cycling the 3 Distilleries Path to enjoy their open days with special mention to Laphroaig (even with the rain and midges) and Ardbeg. Aside from the distilleries the walk to Kilnaughton Beach and Carraig Fhada made for a relaxing evening stroll. A'Chroit is well-equipped with spacious garden area for barbeques and handy outhouse for storing bikes etc. The arrival of a smart TV since we were last here would have been a welcome addition if the weather had not been so fantastic! We very much look forward to returning. Thanks again Kenny.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at A'Chroit. A week of warm, dry weather (in March!) helped but even if it had been cold and wet, the house was warm and cozy and had everything we needed. Just round from the ferry and all facilities to hand in Port Ellen - can highly recommend the new Chinese takeaway, Ellen's Wok, just around the corner. Fabulous coastal walks and we even got up the highest hill on Islay. Saw lots of goats, thousands of geese, seals and an eagle. Apparently a few distilleries in these parts too.

Had a great time in the cottage in mid June. 2021. As others have commented, the garden is excellent for sitting in the sun, drying clothes and watching the nesting birds. So close to 2 beaches, walked to both every evening for a stroll before turning in. 2 food shops (coop and spar), a post office, 2 hotel bars and a restaurant within walking too. We didn't have a car so used the bus (bus stop next door to the cottage) and walked everywhere. Distillery and lighthouse walks good. Visted Bowmore on the bus for the distillery also. Cooked all meals in the cottage rather than going out (covid aware) and facilities were perfect for everything we wanted to prepare. Loved it here and excellent value for money. Cheers Kenny, we'll be back!!

Lovely house with everything you could need. Very well equipped.Lots to do round about . We enjoyed the walk to the distilleries and also to American Monument. Lots of really nice beaches to explore. Nice to either sit in garden or walk along sands in Port Ellen at night. Starlings and thrush nesting in garden and bats flying about at night.

Had a great holiday in a perfectly located and we'll equipped cottage. Kenny was very helpful when we had a wee issue on arrival and it was sorted really quickly. Have already booked for 2022 and have recommended to some friends and family.

Great, comfy accommodation in such a lovely part of the island with lots to explore on your door step and further afield. I enjoyed the garden where I had breakfast, and evening drinks, while watching the birds. The accommodation was quiet and had everything I needed, and more besides. Kenny was a great host. Definitely coming back!

Enjoyed a week on Islay at Port Ellen. A'Chroit is a a great location on the island(Port Ellen) and in the town, with the harbour & shops & restaurant on your doorstep. Everything needed for a self-catering week was provided. The rooms are large and clean and A'Chroit was very good value as well. Ideal location from which to explore Islay - go enjoy.

I can’t even thank Betty enough for her hospitality, the house was very comfortable and warm for the snowy period we stayed. Port Ellen is wonderful and welcoming, and you feel like you are part of the community. (At least at the time of year when we stayed) It was easy to get out and about, plus it is just down the block from the ferry terminal.

You do feel like you are staying at a family home out on the island.

We had a very pleasant stay, like every previous time we went to this place. The house is well located near the harbour, also very comfy, and Betty is a very nice and helpful person. We really felt at home, and we recommend this rental to anyone who wants to visit the island. We’ll be back there as soon as possible.

Highly recommended accommodation with a great location in Port Ellen for exploring what Islay has to offer especially the distillers along the south coast of the island. Having spent two holidays here for the Feis weeks in 2016 & 2017 we would happily return. Many thanks to Kenneth and Betty for providing an excellent place to stay.

Wonderful welcome from Betty, who had bought a few necessities so we didn’t have to rush out to the shops. Cottage ideally placed in center of village – near shops, pubs and bus stop. Well stocked kitchen with everything you could want. Lots of space and very homely. Great garden with starlings nesting in the wall.
Everything you could need – hope to return!
